Cooling Project for 35,000 sqm E-commerce Logistics Warehouse in Dubai

Project Background

The customer is a world-famous Internet e-commerce company. This time, the warehouse located in the Dubai Free Trade Zone has an area of 35,000 square meters and a height of 17 meters, mainly used for e-commerce logistics automated sorting operations. As a professional refrigeration engineering company, we undertook the air conditioning and cooling work for this project.

Technical Implementation Description

In response to Dubai’s summer characteristics of high temperature, drought and dry air, we designed a professional solution. Most existing buildings in the area adopt air-cooled condensation for cooling, which has drawbacks such as low cooling efficiency, high energy consumption and large outdoor equipment floor space. To address these issues, we adopted magnetic levitation cold water air conditioning units, which can reduce operating costs by 40-50% compared with traditional air conditioning units.

The core advantages of magnetic levitation units lie in their oil-free design: there is no lubricating oil in the refrigeration system, so no oil film is formed on the heat exchanger surface. This increases the evaporation temperature in the evaporator and reduces the condensation temperature in the condenser, greatly improving the efficiency of the refrigeration unit. Without the power consumption of lubricating oil pumps and the cooling capacity loss caused by lubricating oil, the energy efficiency ratio of the entire unit is significantly improved. Additionally, it realizes maintenance-free operation (no need to replace lubricating oil or regenerate refrigerant). We used environmentally friendly refrigerant R134A (with ODP = 0) for this project, which features low operating noise, wear-free magnetic levitation technology and a service life of over 30 years.

For condensation, we adopted water cooling method with high heat transfer efficiency. Aiming at the internal installation conditions of the warehouse, we selected floor-standing air conditioning cabinets with fabric air ducts for upward air supply. This design only requires construction personnel to install and fix the refrigeration equipment pipelines on the ground, and then hang the fabric air ducts on the original building structure with steel wire ropes—avoiding extensive refrigeration and air conditioning pipeline construction. For a 17-meter-high warehouse, this scheme effectively reduces construction safety hazards, greatly lowers construction difficulty and saves project costs.

Project Achievements & Advantages

Our engineers completed the entire project in 40 days of intensive on-site construction. When the outdoor temperature reaches 45-50℃, the indoor temperature of the warehouse can be stably controlled below 25-30℃, fully meeting the operational needs of the entire warehouse.

The entire system adopts remote management mode: we can monitor real-time system operation data, query historical records and other functions through the remote management platform even in China. Besides, we have successfully implemented similar warehouse cooling projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, proving our mature technical capabilities in high-temperature regions.
