Project Overview: Building the Backbone of Instant Fresh Delivery

This landmark project involved the design, construction, and deployment of a massive, multi-region cold storage network for Dingdong Maicai, one of China’s leading fresh food e-commerce platforms. The total network spans an impressive 170,000 cubic meters across five strategic locations: a Shanghai front distribution center, a Hangzhou central warehouse (Phases I & II), a Dongguan warehouse, and a Suzhou warehouse.

The core challenge was to build a cold chain infrastructure capable of supporting Dingdong’s core business promise: delivering fresh groceries to customers’ doors within 29 minutes. This required a network of facilities designed for high-speed turnover, absolute temperature integrity, and massive, scalable storage capacity.

Solving the E-commerce Cold Chain Challenge

1. The Problem: Fragmented Supply Chain & Perishability

Fresh food e-commerce faces brutal logistics hurdles—high spoilage rates, inefficient fulfillment, and the immense pressure of last-mile delivery. Dingdong needed a unified, standardized cold chain to ensure that a watermelon in Shanghai and a pack of shrimp in Shenzhen both arrive at the customer’s door with the same “just-picked” quality.

2. The Solution: A Phased, Multi-Temperature Network

Our solution was a distributed network of three distinct temperature zones, each designed for specific product categories and workflow stages:

Constant Temperature Reserve 15-20°C For dry goods, beverages, and heat-sensitive non-perishable items.
Finished Product Freezer -18 to -23°C For frozen meats, seafood, ice cream, and prepared frozen meals.

This multi-zone design allows for simultaneous storage of diverse SKUs and enables an efficient, assembly-line approach to order picking.

Control System Imported fully automated controls with mobile app monitoring, data logging, and multi-level alarms for 24/7 remote management.
