Foxconn Technology Group 2,400㎡ Explosion-Proof Battery Cold Storage Design & Construction Plan

Project Overview

Foxconn Technology Group commissioned the construction of three explosion-proof cold storage facilities, located in Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, and Taiyuan. Each warehouse was specifically designed for battery storage with explosion-proof safety requirements. The total construction area covers 2,400㎡, with storage temperatures maintained between 10–15℃.

Key Requirements

  1. Explosion-Proof Design: All three warehouses (Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan) required internal explosion-proof capabilities to safely store batteries.
  2. Floor Insulation: A multi-layer floor structure including SBS waterproofing, 100mm XPS insulation boards, PE vapor barriers, reinforced concrete (C30 grade), and anti-static epoxy flooring.
  3. Centralized Control: Real-time monitoring and management of temperature, humidity, and safety systems.
  4. Energy Efficiency: Cost-effective solutions with high-performance equipment.
  5. Compliance: Adherence to URS specifications and international safety standards.

Technical Solution

1. Facility Layout

  • Shenzhen Warehouse: 600 m² (3 rooms, each 200 m²) with a clear height of 8 meters.
  • Zhengzhou Warehouse: 1,375 m² (1 room) with a clear height of 6 meters.
  • Taiyuan Warehouse: 446 m² (2 rooms: 228 m² + 218 m²) with a clear height of 3 meters.

2. Refrigeration System

  • Compressors: German-made Bitzer piston compressors for high cooling capacity, reliability, and energy efficiency.
  • Redundancy Configuration:
    • Shenzhen & Taiyuan: 2 operational units + 1 backup per room.
    • Zhengzhou: 3 operational units + 1 backup.
  • Evaporators: Explosion-proof air coolers with corrugated aluminum fins and copper tubes for efficient heat exchange, forced air circulation, and rapid cooling. Patented small-temperature-difference heat transfer technology ensured low noise and stable operation.

3. Insulation Structure

  • Floor Construction: Multi-layer system comprising:
    • SBS waterproofing layer.
    • 100mm XPS insulation boards.
    • PE vapor barrier.
    • 200mm × 200mm reinforced steel mesh.
    • 100mm reinforced concrete (C30 grade).
    • Anti-static epoxy coating.

4. Control & Monitoring System

  • Automation: Siemens fully automated temperature control system with real-time monitoring, data logging, and mobile alerts.
  • Safety Features: Temperature and humidity alarms, remote access via mobile client, and emergency shutdown capabilities
