1. Project Background
BDB Convenience Store Chain is one of the largest and fastest-growing retail groups in Xinjiang, operating 600+ convenience stores, 14 community supermarkets, and employing 2,000+ staff.
With annual sales surpassing USD 100 million, the company urgently needed a large-scale, centralized logistics cold storage facility to support its rapid expansion toward 1,000 stores.
To solve issues of insufficient storage, unstable temperature control, and rising logistics costs, the client planned to build a 15,000 m³ cold storage distribution center at their Urumqi headquarters.
2. Customer’s Key Challenges
Before contacting us, the client faced the following:
- Insufficient daily storage volume, especially for fresh and frozen products
- High energy consumption from older stores and scattered small cold rooms
- Slow product turnover due to lack of centralized distribution
- Temperature fluctuations causing product loss during peak supply periods
- Difficulty managing 600+ stores’ inventory simultaneously
The client needed a central cold chain hub that could:
✔ Increase storage capacity
✔ Lower electricity cost per ton
✔ Improve fresh/frozen product turnover speed
✔ Support unified delivery to all 600+ stores
✔ Operate with fully automated temperature monitoring
3. Project Overview
Cold Storage Capacity
- Total area: 2,000 m²
- Height: 7.5 m
- Total volume: 15,000 m³
- Two temperature zones:
- 0~5°C Chilled Room: 7,500 m³
- -18°C Frozen Room: 7,500 m³
Total storage capacity after completion:
➡ Approx. 3,000–3,500 tons of goods at one time
(ideal for daily distribution for 600+ stores)

5. What the Customer Really Cares About
✔ 1. How much did the project cost?
The complete cold storage project—refrigeration, insulation panels, electrical system, smart monitoring, installation & commissioning—cost approximately:
➡ USD 670,000 – 750,000
(Depending on final configuration adjustments and construction conditions)
This investment replaced dozens of scattered small cold rooms, significantly reducing operating costs.
✔ 2. How long did the project take?
Total project duration from design to final commissioning:
➡ About 85 days
- Design & approval: 10 days
- Materials production: 20 days
- On-site construction: 45 days
- Testing & commissioning: 10 days
The new distribution center was ready before the customer’s seasonal sales peak.
✔ 3. How much electricity does it use?
Thanks to screw compressors + optimized panel thickness + intelligent defrost control:
Estimated monthly consumption:
➡ 45,000 – 55,000 kWh (combined for 15,000 m³ facility)
Electricity cost savings:
➡ Compared with their previous scattered cold rooms,
electricity use per ton dropped by 18–25%.
✔ 4. How much product can it store now?
With 15,000 m³ total volume:
➡ Chilled storage capacity: ~1,500 tons
➡ Frozen storage capacity: ~1,800–2,000 tons
➡ Total capacity: 3,000+ tons
This allows BDB to supply all 600 stores daily with stable, uniform cold chain conditions.
