Cold Storage Project Case: 5,000 m³ Multi-Temperature Cold Chain System for Home Flavor Food Processing Group in Jingzhou, China - China cold storage solution provider

Cold Storage Project Case: 5,000 m³ Multi-Temperature Cold Chain System for Home Flavor Food Processing Group in Jingzhou, China

1. Project Background

Home Flavor Food is a major food processing enterprise in Hubei, China, investing over USD 21 million and operating a 40,000 m² production base specializing in beef products, marinated foods, and ready-to-eat items.

To support its rapidly expanding domestic & international business, the client required a central cold chain system integrating:

  • Defrosting rooms
  • 0–4°C chilling & preservation rooms
  • –18°C frozen storage
  • –35°C deep-freezing (blast freezer) rooms

The purpose was to ensure consistent product quality, increase daily throughput, and build a full-process cold chain from raw materials to finished products.

2. Customer’s Key Pain Points Before the Project

Before contacting Haocool, the client faced:

  • Insufficient freezing capacity, causing production bottlenecks
  • Slow defrosting, affecting daily processing schedules
  • Temperature fluctuations that could damage product quality
  • High energy consumption from outdated freezing rooms
  • No ability to expand cold storage as production grows

The customer urgently needed a high-efficiency, scalable multi-temperature cold chain to support long-term growth.

3. Project Overview (5,000 m³ Multi-Temperature Facility)

① Defrosting & Chilling Rooms (0–4°C)

  • Total: 2 defrost rooms + 5 preservation rooms
  • Temperature: 0–4°C
  • Insulation: 100 mm PU panels
  • One defrosting room equipped with a full refrigeration system
  • The second room pre-installed with equipment interface for future expansion

② Deep-Freezing (Blast Freezer) Rooms –35°C

  • Total: 5 deep-freeze rooms
  • Insulation: 200 mm PU panels
  • Each room capacity:
    • Rooms #1–4: 3 tons / 12 hours
    • Room #5: 1.5 tons / 12 hours
  • Able to reduce +15°C raw materials to –15°C core temperature rapidly, locking in freshness & texture

③ Frozen Storage –18°C

  • Total: 3 frozen storage rooms
  • Temperature: –18°C
  • Insulation: 150 mm PU panels
  • Used for long-term storage after deep freezing

4. What the Customer Really Cares About

✔ 1. How much did the project cost?

The complete multi-temperature cold chain project—including refrigeration systems, insulation, electrical engineering, automation, installation, and commissioning—cost approximately:

➡ USD 380,000 – 450,000
(depending on final equipment configuration)

This replaced several old cold rooms and greatly increased freezing efficiency.

✔ 2. How long did the project take?

From design to commissioning, total duration:

➡ 70 days

  • Design & layout planning: 10 days
  • Material manufacturing: 15 days
  • On-site installation: 40 days
  • Testing & commissioning: 5 days

The client was able to put the new production lines into operation before the peak sales season.

✔ 3. How much electricity does it consume?

Thanks to optimized air-cooled systems, thick insulation, and intelligent defrost control:

➡ Estimated monthly consumption: 28,000 – 35,000 kWh

Compared with the client’s previous aging cold rooms:

➡ Energy consumption per ton decreased by 22–30%

✔ 4. How much product can it store?

With total volume 5,000 m³, the facility provides:

  • Defrosting capacity: 30–35 tons/day
  • Blast freezing capacity: 13.5 tons / 12 hours
  • Frozen storage capacity: 750–900 tons
  • Chilled storage capacity: 350–400 tons

➡ Total handling capacity increased by 2.3×, removing production bottlenecks.
