This large-scale food processing and low-temperature cold storage logistics project was designed and built by haocool Refrigeration for Suzhou Taicang Yuanxi Food Co., Ltd., a well-known regional enterprise specializing in frozen meat and prepared food products.

The project consists of two high-standard double-story cold warehouses with a total storage volume of 80,000 cubic meters. The cold storage is designed as a multi-temperature variable cold room divided into six temperature zones ranging from +10°C, 0~4°C, and -18°C, suitable for different stages of food processing, freezing, and storage.

Customer Challenge

Before construction, Yuanxi Food faced major operational constraints:

  • Insufficient cold storage capacity, forcing reliance on third-party warehousing.
  • High operating costs from outdated refrigeration systems and logistics inefficiency.
  • Unstable product quality due to temperature fluctuations in rented facilities.

They needed a centralized, energy-efficient cold chain facility to integrate processing, storage, and distribution while reducing long-term energy and logistics costs.

Engineering Solutions

1. Structural & Insulation System

  • Floor insulation: High-density extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards with waterproof treatment.
  • Underfloor heating: Full underfloor pipeline network to prevent frost heave and maintain stable temperatures.
  • Warehouse panels: B1-grade fire-retardant cold storage panels ensuring optimal insulation performance.

2. Advanced CO₂ Cascade Refrigeration System

  • 2 high-temperature compressor units
  • 2 medium-temperature units
  • 2 CO₂ compressor sets
  • 4 evaporative condensers
  • 2 CO₂ condensers
  • 2 CO₂ charging stations
  • 2 CO₂ circulation tanks (medium & low temp)
  • 4 heat recovery exchangers (for floor heating and hot water reuse)
  • 4 water defrost pumps + 1 defrosting tank
  • Complete PLC automatic control and monitoring system for temperature and humidity management.

3. Electrical & Control System

  • Full LED lighting system throughout warehouse and corridors.
  • Dedicated power wiring for sliding doors, loading docks, forklifts, and monitoring.
  • Integrated CO₂ gas detection & alarm, humidity and temperature sensors, and remote data monitoring.

  • Construction Duration: 150 days from design to commissioning.
  • Storage Capacity: Approx. 8,000 tons of frozen and chilled food products.
  • Temperature Zones: 0~4°C (chilled), -18°C (frozen), 10°C (processing & staging area).
